December 2012 Ladies' Luncheon

Sixteen of us gathered for a lovely luncheon at The Club on Thursday, December 6th. Glynda's mom, Gloria, joined us as well as Lisa's daughter, Beth. Thank you to Lisa for coordinating the luncheon. Others who enjoyed the festive occasion were Marsha, Jane B, Jane Z, Carolyn, Nancy, Becki, Carol, Barbara, Ann, Shelia, Gleeda, and Zo. Zo came from work but had to leave before the picture. However, we were able to celebrate Zo's birthday with her!

November 2012 Ladies' Luncheon

Janet T, Lisa L, Jane Z, Shelia L, Barbara T, Jane B, Gleeda A, and Carolyn H met at Bella at The Village at Lee Branch on Thursday, November 15th.  We had a lovely time eating and chatting before some of us ventured off to shop!

FBCT Trunk or Treat 2012

Our class had a fun time giving out candy Halloween night at the Fall Family Fun Night.  We had a 'General Store' theme this year thanks to Randy and Marsha.  Don gave out lots of candy with the help of Jane, Cathy and Roger, Jon and Martha, Randy and Marsha, Van and Carolyn, Pete and Brenda, and Donny and Bonnie. Hope more of you can join in the fun next year!

July 2012 Ladies' Luncheon

A group of 5 ladies enjoyed lunch today at Oscar's in the Birmingham Museum of Art. Before and after eating we toured the Gift Shop and also an area designed for children with interactive activities. This is evidenced by the one photo showing us in a screen where we didn't read what we were supposed to be doing!

Gathering today were Jane Zobrosky, Shelia Lowery, Barbara Tharp, Nancy Dorr and Jane Beasley. We invite ore of you ladies to join us next month. The date will be Friday, August 17th.

June 2012 Ladies' Luncheon

Eight of our ladies ventured south of town to Mikey's off Valleydale Road for a delicious lunch today. Entrees ranged from crab cakes to spinach salad with shrimp, talapia and baked salmon. Jane Z planned the outing that was also enjoyed by Carolyn, Gleeda, Jane B, Shelia, Barbara, Ann and Dianne B. Wishing she'd waited for dessert is Jane B who ordered a Caesar Salad leaving her sweet tooth unfulfilled but had had plenty before all the yummy desserts were described by our waiter!


Wednesday July 18th is our next date and we'll let you know plans and hope many more of you will join us!

May 2012 Ladies' Luncheon

Ten ladies enjoyed a delightful lunch at Butterflies Garden Tea Room in Fultondale on Friday, May 18. Carol Rogers, Jane Beasley, Gleeda Alvis, Carolyn Horne, Zo Cochran, Ann Havicus, Lisa Long, Janet Thompson, Jane Zobrosky, and Sheila Lowery shared their story of joining FBCT. The hit for Carolyn and Sheila was the strawberry peach tea. All enjoyed a dessert before heading out to shop in the store. The next month's luncheon will be Monday, June 18.

Having lunch at The Gardens Cafe at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens on Wednesday, April 18th were seven of our ladies. We were happy to have Zolinda come from work to join Gleeda, Nancy, Barbara, Dianne, Shelia and Jane B. We always enjoy our lunches and invite all our ladies to join us next month on Friday, May 18th.

March 2012 Ladies' Luncheon

On Friday March 16th the Sunday School ladies enjoyed lunch at Olexa's in Mountain Brook Village planned by Ann Havicus. Each of the ladies had an Easter basket filled with chocolate eggs prepared by Ann at their seat. Crepes seemed to be the order of the day along with a luscious dessert called Cloud Nine. Those of us who didn't order those wished we had when we saw them. Now the Bread Pudding did come in a close second! A group of eight gathered for a pleasant spring midday get together. Those present were Janet Thompson, Lisa Long, Jane Beasley, Ann Havicus, Jane Zobrosky, Shelia Lowery, Gleeda Alvis and Barbara Tharp.

February 2012 Ladies' Luncheon

Lisa Long planned our February lunch outing at DeVinci's Fine Italian Cuisine in Homewood on Friday, the 17th. Everyone enjoyed a wonderful, festive meal. Those lucky enough to be there were Lisa, Carolyn, Barbara, Carol, Ann, Zo, Jane Z, Sheila, Gleeda, Jane B, Brenda S, and Janet. This was Janet's first time to join us for lunch.

We hope everyone will join us on Friday, March 16. Ann Havicus will be sending us details.

January 2012 Ladies' Luncheon

Twelve ladies enjoyed a delicious lunch and lots of fellowship at Firebirds Wood Fired Grill on Wednesday, January 18. We were happy to have Lisa's daughter, Beth, join in the fun. Hope more can join us in February on Friday the 17th. Lisa is making plans for us to dine at Devinci's of Homewood.

Changes

Our prayer requests and praises from Sunday will now be emailed. We felt that with issues regarding privacy and other matters this would be best and discussed this in class on January 8th.

Stay Focused on the Goal

Jimmy Summers led us in our Bible study from Numbers 32. We demonstrate that our focus is on fulfilling God's purposes when we take steps to help others know and follow God's purposes too. We also show a deep sense of spiritual obligation when we commit to fulfilling God's purposes over our wants and plans.

J Seeley – J Dullion (91 years old) in St. Vincent’s East is not doing well
G Alvis – Tim traveling this week
G Alvis – M Wilson has advanced cancer
Zobrosky’s – son Chris and wife Catherine will be in Atlanta this week for intensive week preparing for the mission field
J Mitchell – friend from Tenn. Brad N has cancer that is too far gone for surgery or treatments. He has a young daughter around 6 or 7 who lost her mother a couple of years ago. Daughter needs prayer for who will care for her

Scripture from Numbers 16:1 - 25:18

We thank Earl Tharp so much for stepping in for Don today! As I'm sure most of you know, Don took a fall on Wednesday and isn't able to get around well and has now developed pain with a bone or nerve in his hip. We still have much to be thankful for on this - in Earl's words: "The first day of a new week of a new month of a new year - 2012!" Thank you for all your prayers and offers of help. As long as I'm able to do for him, we are making it fine.

We are here because of people in our lives that have led us and have gone on before us. We should remember to be thankful to God for His mercy and what He has in store for us.

Earl brought out several meaningful points and thoughts this morning. Another was that instead of making resolutions that we might not follow through with he told us to rely on God's word as our resolution for 2012. Proverbs 3:6 KJV: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths."

He reminded us that when he was our Interim Pastor, Dr. Charles Carter would say that in order to make it through each day and what it brings to us we each should recite the 23rd Psalm several times a day. Another wonderful thing Earl reminded us of was our model prayer, The Lord's Prayer" and that we could recite it during the day also. Turning every second of every day over to God is what we each should remember to do when we first think we have something to handle. WE don't have to handle it GOD is with us to handle it for us.

We had a ton of delicious food today for breakfast and enjoyed the fellowship among our class friends on this, New Year's Day 2012! Don enjoyed what was sent home for him too! Thank you!!
