We HELPED with $800.00 in items from the Living Trees at church this season for children in our area. We talked in class about donating around $800 with Don seeing how much was needed and Blake said it was about $1,400 and someone donated $600 and he needed $800. Isn't God good!!! We also gave $1,000 to Stacy J and her family that the Bonners had come in contact with. The Eiland family, young missionaries we'd had visit the class, received a Love Gift of $500 from us also. Thank you for your generosity to help others! We give as we have been blessed by God!

Does Your Life Please God?

Scripture from Romans 12:1-21.

In the first part of the book of Romans Paul gave a theological explanation of the plan of salvation and our relation to it. In Chapter 12 he turned from the theological to the practical to describe how we should live a Christian life. His first premise was that we should live a life pleasing to God by presenting ourselves as a living sacrifice and living under the direction of the Holy Spirit.

Living in the Spirit and loving our neighbors is a true expression of worship toward God. Those two things make us pleasing in God's sight.

Fall Family Night is tomorrow. Come help if you can! We'll have fun as cowboys and cowgirls with genuine saddles provided by Marsha and Randy. Thanks to them and Carolyn and all for contributions and help. Be there by 4:30 if you can. We'll be there from 5-7 and then everyone who wants to will go out to eat. (As Buddy said in the worship service today - Baptists meet and eat!)

Buddy will speak on Wednesday night at 6 about their experiences since January with Grace and her health issues. With all the treatment and medications etc she's had over these months there is still no definite diagnosis. I assume she's turned 16 by now and we continue to lift her and her family to the Lord in prayer. Not the life an active teenager and her family planned. They know that God is in control.

Jerry Bailey will be teaching Sundays, the 6th and 13th. We'll be on the road from the 5th to the 15th. Pray for safe travels as we drive to Texas and Arizona. Don will work a little, we'll do a little sightseeing and meet our kids and grandkids for a wedding on 11-11-11!

Birthday Night will be on the 14th. Dessert by Carolyn. 6:30 Munoz.

Thanksgiving Dinner at church on Wed. the 16th.

Ladies will gather for lunch at P F Chang's on the 18th.

Lots going on! Pray for all the needs we are aware of as well as those we aren't. Pray for your family, your friends and include yourself as you seek to live for God each and every day!

WE ARE TO LIVE SO THAT OUR BEHAVIOR PLEASES GOD.

BE YE FISHERS OF ME. YOU CATCH 'EM, HE'LL CLEAN 'EM!

DON'T WAIT FOR 6 STRONG MEN TO TAKE YOU TO CHURCH.

To God be the Glory! Great things He has done --- and will CONTINUE to do!

It's All About God's Plan ...

Scripture is from Romans 10:1-4, 8b-18a; 11:28-32.

After discussing the Gospel for several chapters, Paul turned to our place in God's plan of Salvation. Once we have believed in our hearts and confessed with our mouths that Jesus is Lord it becomes our duty to spread the word so that others may believe and confess and find salvation in Him. Our place in God's plan is to share our witness through our actions and our words.

We welcomed Tyler and Jennifer Eiland to class...

Instead of our lesson this morning we welcomed the young missionary couple, Tyler and Jennifer Eiland, who spoke to us about their life and work in the middle of Africa in an area called The Democratic Republic of Congo. They were church planters there.

Jennifer grew up in Pleasant Grove as a friend of the Baileys. She says they are somehow distantly related! Tyler grew up in Clanton and they met at Samford and gave their lives as missionaries expecting to serve in foreign lands for maybe 25 years and then retire but their plans changed when they noticed slow developmental progress with one of their young daughters named Hope. She has been diagnosed with High Functioning Autism and through programs here they see her making strides they never thought would be possible.

Please pray with them that Tyler will find a position in a church to continue God's work or he is open to work in other areas. They are currently on medical leave which the IMB extended another month for them and at that time all their income and benefits will cease.

We've been praying for them since we heard of their situation and recently made a Love Gift donation to them for which they were most thankful. They also have another young daughter that some of our ladies had in VBS. Her name is Sophia.

They welcome encouraging emails. Their addresses are: tylereiland@gmail.com and jenniferceiland@gmail.com .

After lunch in a large dining room that was a part of the original garage that housed one of the first motorized vehicles in town and overlooked the side gardens, we were given a guided tour of the main home. Dianne Bonner was allowed to play a pump organ that was on display and we all enjoyed listening and watching her. Arlington was home to many well-to-do families after it was constructed somewhere after 1842. The actual date is unknown. It became the property of The City of Birmingham in 1953. Scriptures: Colossians 3:12-13 and Philemon 8-22

Don spoke to us today about forgiveness and the definition and how we are to do as God instructs to forgive those we feel have wronged us. In this it is usually a blessing to us. Our deepest sympathy to the Self Family ...

It is with very saddened hearts that we offer our deepest sympathy to Brenda Self and the entire family on Gerald's passing. We are sad for ourselves but we know that Heaven gained a wonderful soul when Gerald entered those beautiful gates on Tuesday morning, July 5, 2011 at 8:18AM. Gerald's presence among us physically will be missed but he will be forever in our minds and our hearts.

Witnessing our men joined together with hands and hearts to carry Gerald's casket to his grave was a beautiful sight to behold.

We are all committed to being there for Brenda and she is and will always be a very important part of our class, our lives and our hearts!

Let us continue praying for not only Brenda but for their son Allen, their daughter Jessica and her husband Marc and precious little Ben.

In her true fashion of always thinking of others and doing for them in the name of the Lord, Brenda has asked that the Memorial Donation that the class would make in Gerald's name be kept in our Class Fund for us to use to help someone when we are aware of a need. We thank you, Brenda, for that kind gesture.

We we blessed to be able to go outside after our worship service for the dedication of the new flags that were placed near the fountain in front of the new Preschool Building. The donation from our class helped make this possible. There is now an American Flag and a Christian Flag which will be flown proudly there. There were church members there in uniforms of different branches of the service as well as other members who'd proudly served our country. I was not close and may have missed others but I was able to see Mr. Lee Dreher proudly standing there saluting! Mr. Dreher is a very sweet man and is the father of our own Diane Summers. Please let her know if you know of the availability of either. Don brought up that the class could help out on this.

Cultivate Contentment ...

Scripture: Philippians 4:10-20 and 1 Timothy 6:6-12

In Paul's first letter to Timothy he discussed Godliness and Contentment as great gain. By Godliness he meant leading a life that honored God and keeping His commandments. Contentment is an affirmation of our faith in God's ability and desire to provide for us.

Defer to the Owner ...

Scripture: 1 Chronicles 29:10-20

Today we began a series of lessons concerning our attitudes toward possessions. Once we realize that we are only temporary residents of this earth and God owns everything throughout Eternity, our perspective becomes a Biblical one. We are stewards of the things that God intrusts to us and our responsibility is to give Him glory and praise through the use of our possessions.

Prayer requests:

Hot Meal for some tornado victims...

Ann Havicus has volunteered to be in charge of our project to prepare a hot meal for some of the tornado victims. She has a team of ladies who've also agreed to help her. Be watching and listening for information on when this will be and what each of us can do to help. Many of us will need to be involved with a project of this size. This will be a blessing to each of us as well as those we minister to.

Walk with God ...

Scriptures are: Ezra 7:la, 6-10, 25-28 and 9:4-6 and 10:10-12.

We all are called to be leaders in Christ's work. All of us have the responsibility to lead others to Christ by our example. In our study today Ezra's integrity led him to a position of leadership that was based on his decision to do 3 things. He determined in his heart to study God's law, obey it's commands and teach it to others. We can develop that same character by studying the scripture, obeying the commands of Jesus and leading others to Him by our lifestyle.

Taking the Lead

Jimmy Summers led us in our study from Joshua 1 about overcoming our fears when God gives us the opportunity to lead. We learned that God will ALWAYS be there with us every step of the way when he calls us to spiritual leadership.

Before the lesson, several in the class reported on ways we served this week financially, spiritually, and by volunteering. Bill L said Sherry, mother of 13 who lost her husband, told him she was thankful for the body of Christ who was so evident this week. Ann H had a thank you note from the person who delivered clothes provided for 3 sisters who lost their parents. Jane M read a thank you note from a church in Pratt City that was provided supplies and clothes.

"Small things done with great love can change the world."

Approximately 28 class members gathered in the church parking lot on Monday night, May 2nd, with donations for the Pleasant Grove area. Both the Baileys and Bonners are long time residents of that area. Jerry and Glynda spearheaded this effort with connections through the First Baptist Church of Pleasant Grove. We filled Jerry's truck, Dianne's car and Butch's huge pick-up! A lady who saw us there stopped and gave us things including a case of large bottles of Gatorade. A car stopped and a little girl gave Glynda a plastic Easter egg with her money she wanted to donate. This devastation has touched so many. We thank those of you who came and those who sent donations. We held hands and Jerry voiced a prayer for those affected by the tornadoes and ones who do what they can to assist them. "Bear ye one another's burdens and so fulfil the law of Christ." Galatians 6:2. Our class verse in motion on that asphalt as we gathered to share, Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

Sunday - May 1st, 2011

I'm posting this with notes from the SS prayer list. Carolyn nor I were in SS.

We thank Jimmy Summers for teaching. He will also be teaching this coming Sunday. Pray for him especially because it is Mother's Day and his mother passed away and was just buried this past Saturday. I know he will be proud to be teaching that day and know she is watching down on him from her new home in Heaven. If you remember last year Don taught on Mother's Day with that afternoon being the visitation for his mother who had passed away on the Thursday night before. Both these are men of God who serve Him and honored their mothers during their lives and stood in service to HIM even in their time of sadness.

Prayer List:
Summers and Dorr families in the death of Mrs. Mary Summers, Jimmy's mother and Bobby's aunt.
Victims of the storms and tornadoes on April 27th. Randy and Ann H lost friends, the Baileys and Bonners and Hendersons and Jerry and Joy Mitchell did as well. Some names are Sanders, Lee, Traweek. Don's co-worker one of many who lost homes.
Responders to help in the tornado aftermath.

Caden M - grandson of Butch and Jane
Candace Carr V was to have had her baby boy last week but we haven't heard since the email from Joy that she was flying out to be there in time for the C-section.
Unspoken requests.

Praises:
Sunday was Earl's birthday.
Those safe in the storm.
Carol R's aunt
Gerald had a good report at MDA. Was only there a few days instead of anticipated 3 weeks. To have new kind of treatment.

The class took up a love gift to help some affected by the tornadoes and will collect again on Sunday, May 8th. Please come prepared if you wish to do so and weren't in SS on the 1st. Money was given to Ann H for her friends who were killed leaving 3 daughters in the hospital. Don was also given a donation for a co-worker who lost his home. Talked about helping Randy and Marsha's friends find a home. Father killed leaving wife and 13 children. We will continue to help in any way we can where we see a need.

There were about 28 of us who met in the parking lot at the church on Monday night with donations for Pleasant Grove. Jerry and Glynda spearheaded this and may have help taking it out from the Bonners and possibly others. Thank you to all who came and those who donated but couldn't come to see Jerry's truck full, Dianne B's car full of clothing and purses etc and the huge pick-up that Butch M came in as well loaded with as much as it could hold. A lady we didn't know stopped to give us items also including a case of large bottles of Gatorade and a little girl was brought by and handed Glynda B a plastic Easter egg full of money that she wanted to donate. Tears of joy were shared and a prayer of thankfulness for God's mercy and love to both the giver and recipient and prayer for strength in the days to come was voiced by Jerry as we all joined hands. We truly acted upon our class verse "Bear ye one another's burdens and so fulfil the law of Christ." Galatians 6:2

May 9th is the next Birthday Night at Munoz at 6:30, goodies by Glynda B.

May 18th is the Ladies Luncheon at Thai Emerald on 280 near 119.

Receive Comfort - Give Comfort

Scripture is II Corinthians 1:1-11
