There was no Sunday School on the 26th ...

Sunday, December 26th, there was one morning Worship Service at 10AM in the Sanctuary and no Sunday School or other services.

We pray that each of you had a very Merry Christmas enjoying time with your family and friends!

Due to our beautiful snow on Christmas Day and that night, Mark, Mary and Ellie weren't able to leave as early on Sunday morning as they'd planned so we were here with them eating breakfast and watching the roads. Sorry we missed the service and those of you who were able to be there.

Happy New Year!! Hope to see you all this coming Sunday, January 2, 2011!

Glory to God in the Highest, Peace on Earth, Good Will to Man...

Our class time was special this morning even though the actual lesson time was cut short because of the other delightful things that went on!

We thank all of you who brought the delicious goodies this morning. What a wonderful surprise and our time of fellowship meant a lot to us. How very thoughtful of you to give us our nights in Gatlinburg at The Inn at Christmas Place. Thank you so much for being so kind to us! We love every one of you and thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

For his time this morning Don read the Christmas story to us from Luke 2 in the King James version of the Bible. He pointed out to us that taking the shepherds as examples it is our privilege to go and tell the wonderful message of Jesus' birth.

It always comes to my mind the short phrase I've heard to sum up the story: Come and see, Go and tell! This should be our motto for every day of our life!

I only have a few of the prayer requests in my notebook from my notes to begin the list on the board for this morning. I won't list those because I wouldn't be able to list all we had on the board and it wouldn't be fair to list some and not others. Please remember your classmates and their friends and families in your prayers. There were all kinds of needs as well as praises. None more important than the others.

Your generosity to help families in need with Christmas for their children and other necessities was overwhelming. As far as we know, any children or grandchildren within our class who needed help were helped. As well, we donated money to a young man in our church to be administered by Blake Kersey. He is recently off drugs and a new Christian preparing to enter the service. Today we also agreed to help a young mother of 4 who is struggling with many other situations including lack of heat in her home. In your prayers, please also include those people.

Due to the big Auburn - Oregon game on January 10th, it was decided to move our Birthday Night to January 17th, the following Monday.

Merry Christmas to each of you and remember there is no Sunday School on December 26th, but one Worship Service in the sanctuary at 10am. I understand that all ages Kindergarten and above will be in the sanctuary.

Life Together ...

After Peter's sermon at Penecost when 3,000 people were added to the church the writer of Acts gives us the example of how a church is to operate. They spent their time in teaching the word, fellowship, the breaking of bread and prayer. These four things are the basis of our argument for why we should be involved in a Christian fellowship. We can only experience these things in the fellowship of other Christians and by doing them we learn to love God and love our fellow man and thus fulfil the two great commandments in Jesus' teaching. The first step in this process is regular attendance and involvement.

Scriptures from Acts 2:41-47 and Hebrews 10:23-25.

Churches change lives. You can be a part of this amazing process!

Carolyn and I both are out of town so there won't be a post from this morning's class.

(I'm updating this Monday.)

We appreciate Bill Lowery stepping in to lead the class Sunday morning. William Owen was to teach but his family was called to the hospital for his brother, Frank, as they were preparing to come to church. Please be praying for Frank and for William and their family. Frank is now on a ventilator and his body is shutting down. We've prayed for him for a long time and let's continue to do so now as only God knows how long he will be here with his earthly family.

Sin is a Big Deal ...

In today's society where people set their own standards and practice situational ethics it is important for Christians to realize that sin is real and that there are consequences involved. In it's broadest sense sin can be defined as rebellion against God. In making the case for Jesus, as the Saviour of the world, we must first establish the reality of sin as the basis for our need for salvation. "All have sinned and come short of the Glory of God."

Jesus is our one and only way to Salvation.

Scripture: Genesis 3:1-6, 16-19, 24 and Romans 5:12-14.

William Owen will be teaching next Sunday on October 10th and Jimmy Summers will teach on October 24. Jane and Don will be out of town on these dates. We are thankful for these men stepping in to teach the class!

Birthday Night is next Monday, Oct. 11th at 6:30 at Munoz. Eve Gray or Brenda Bryant will be bringing the dessert.

The Case for Hope ...

Apologetics is the process of defending our faith to those who question it and to those who seek to know more about Jesus. Our study this quarter will equip us to do this. The first lesson gave us instructions on how to make our case when we are questioned or challenged about our beliefs. The basic process of our testimony is to tell others what our life was before we met Jesus, how we came to know Him and how He had changed our lives. This is simple but a very important process that equips us to witness to others and defend our faith.

Scriptures are Acts 21:40 thru 22:10 and 1st Peter 3:15-17.

Prayer Requests:
Mrs. Sloan, Becki's mom
Cherie B - should begin treatment soon.

Glad to have Mallory M with us today. Granddaughter of Earl and Barbara

Let people see that you live your Faith naturally!

The lesser of two evils is still evil!

In the next few weeks, bring all your old unused eye glasses for us to take to the Birmingham Baptist Association to be given to the needy with Food Baskets at Thanksgiving. Barbara T or Jane will collect them.

Annual Bar-B-Que - October 30th at Bonnie and Donny's. We'll soon be collecting $10 per couple for meat and everyone is asked to bring something to go with it. Some of the guys will cook all day and the rest of us will go at 6 to enjoy the fruits of their labor! It's always wonderful and we have a great time of fellowship!
